Five Abbey Baseball Student-Athletes Named CSC Academic All-District

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Five Belmont Abbey baseball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team Tuesday as the organization released the full teams.

The five Crusaders who made the Division II team are as follows: Caleb Burr, Spencer Cipro, Jack Boyles, Connor Tucker and Joe Whitaker. Burr and Tucker are three-time Academic All-District honorees while Boyles is back on the team for the second straight year. Additionally, Cipro and Whitaker both earned spots for the first time.

Burr was a consensus all-region selection from the NCBWA, ABCA and D2CCA as well as a first team All-Conference Carolinas selection. The senior outfielder from Mount Holly, N.C. finished the season with a .353 batting average and led the team with 16 home runs and 62 runs batted in. Additionally, he finished with a .686 slugging percentage, 19 doubles and a perfect 21 for 21 in stolen bases on the year. He currently holds a 3.93 grade point average and is majoring in finance.

Cipro is Academic All-District for the first time and put together a strong season for the Crusaders, earning second-team All-Region honors from the NCBWA and D2CCA. He finished with a 10-3 record and 17 appearances with 14 starts. The senior from Brookfield, Mass. near the top of the conference in innings pitched (91.2) and threw five complete games on the season. He finished with a 3.44 ERA and 64 strikeouts compared to just 23 walks. He graduated in May with a degree in Politics and finished with a 3.56 GPA. Both Burr and Cipro are eligible to be selected for Academic All-American honors that will be unveiled in July.

Tucker earned a spot on the team for the third straight year. He finished with a .304 batting average with five home runs and 41 runs batted in. He also finished with 16 doubles, a team-best five triples and a .518 slugging percentage. The senior from Stanfield, N.C. played in 55 games and made 51 starts for the Crusaders. He graduated in May with a degree in business management.

Boyles earned a spot on the team for the second straight year as the regular started at shortstop. He started and played in 57 games for the Crusaders and had 13 doubles and 28 runs batted in. He also finished with 21 stolen bases on the season. The junior from Wake Forest, N.C. currently holds a 3.82 GPA and is a biology major.

Whitaker is the latest Crusader to make the team and he was a versatile piece to the Crusaders' success this season. The junior from Tampa, Fla. finished with a .305 average and started 57 games this season for the Crusaders, adding 10 home runs and 39 runs batted in. He started at first base, left field and second base this season for the Abbey. He has a 3.71 GPA and is studying Data Analytics at Belmont Abbey.

Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 1, 2025. The Division II CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division II Academic All-America® programs.
