BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey jumped out to a fast start with a 10-run first inning and
Drew Stegura earned his sixth win of the season as the Crusaders defeated Barton 19-3 Friday evening at Abbey Yard.
Six Crusaders finished with multi-hit days, including
Jacob Steinberg who had three runs batted in.
With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 24-8 overall and 17-5 in Conference Carolinas play. Barton is now 7-19 overall and 5-14 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless top half of the first inning, the Crusaders loaded the bases and Caleb Burr drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly.
- Steinberg added an RBI single while Todd Velotta added a two-run double to make it 4-0.
- Jack Boyles added a two-run single while Josh Wilson had a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0.
- Joe Whitaker capped the inning with a three-run home run, his 13th of the season.
- Barton loaded the bases in the second inning and Stegura escaped the jam.
- Matthew Fattore added a sacrifice fly to make it 11-0 in the second inning.
- The Crusaders made it 14-0 in the third inning thanks to an RBI double from Steinberg and a two-run from Jake Bidoglio.
- Stegura allowed just three hits and struck out five in five innings of work.
- Barton got on the board with a run in the sixth inning.
- The Crusaders added three runs in the bottom of the inning with an RBI from Mason Janz.
- Josh Wilson scored on a wild pitch while Steinberg added an RBI after being hit by a pitch.
- Noah Simpson capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the eighth inning.
