Men's Lacrosse Downed By Queens, 13-10

The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team was upended by the visiting Queens Royals 13-10 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas action at Alumni Field. Queens moves to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Belmont Abbey scored three of the game's first five goals, but Queens grabbed the lead for good by scoring three goals in the last 1:48 of the second quarter to claim a lead it would never lose again.

The Royals continued their stride to open the second half, netting the first goal to move ahead 6-3, but the Crusaders battled back by scoring two-straight, getting goals from Caleb Holt and a man-up strike from Daniel Marshall to trim the deficit to 6-5.

Queens countered that with two unanswered to extend the advantage to 8-5, but the Abbey again closed the lead to one, as Dan Morrissey closed the third quarter with a goal and Scotty Steele opened the fourth with a marker to cut the lead to 8-7.

After that, however, the Royals put the game away by scoring the next four goals in a span of just 1:29, as their lead grew to 12-7. Marshall scored the next two for his fourth and fifth goals of the game to cut the lead to 12-9, but the Royals quickly added another to move ahead 13-9. Steele closed the scoring with 26 seconds left.

Queens outshot the Abbey 32-29 and won 15 of 27 face-offs. Evan Farkas led the Royals with four goals, while Casey Hock and Garrett Chan both added two to pace the Queens offense. Hock and Justin Kestler both had two assists.

Marshall's five goals led all players, and Steele added two. Morrissey, Holt and Vin Loscazlo had one goal each. Morrissey handed out four assists, while Connor Sellars had two.

Defensively, Connor Doyle and Devin Cruz both had three caused turnovers and Doyle's five ground balls was a team-high.
