Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse
team lost at Pfeiffer this afternoon by a 10-4 score. The
Falcons move to 9-3 overall, 3-0 in league play while the
Crusaders fall to 3-7, 1-2.
Belmont Abbey's Scotty
Steele scored the first goal of the day with 7:32 to play in
the first quarter while Pfeiffer's Elliot Gilbert tied
things up with 3:52 remaining as both teams played to a 1-1 draw
through 15 minutes.
The Falcons started to take over
in the second with James Shepherd finding the back of the net
just 15 seconds into the second quarter. Just past the midway point
of the period, Steven Tilmon and Justin Rose would tally two
minutes apart to give the hosts a 4-1 lead. Steele, who scored
three on the day, put home his second with 29 ticks left in the
period as Pfeiffer led 4-2 at the break.
Both third quarter goals belonged
to the Falcons with Rose hitting again at 12:09 thanks to assist
from Zac Clark while Tim Kleehammer scored unassisted with 84
seconds left. Belmont Abbey would then register the first two goals
of the fourth quarter, coming from Steele and Brendan
Rogers, to make things interesting over the final 15
minutes.
Steele would finish off his hat
trick just 31 seconds in while Tanner Scharr hooked up with Brendan
Rogers at the 12:54 mark for a man-up goal getting the Crusaders to
within two at 6-4. From there, Pfeiffer would put home the
game's final four starting with Tilmon's second at 9:35
and Rose's third with five minutes remaining. Shepherd and
Robert Hope with hit with 4:26 and 0:03 to go.
Kevin Costa scooped up a team-high
four groundballs for the Crusaders while Brendan
Shoults caused a pair of turnovers. Hayden Kirk turned
away 10 shots while allowing just the four goals in net for the
Falcons. Brett Lawless stopped nine shots and Merrick Reiland made
one save.
