Men's Lacrosse Loses To Pfeiffer, 11-4

The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Pfeiffer University Falcons by an 11-4 score this afternoon in a Conference Carolinas matchup from Alumni Field. The Falcons move to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Crusaders drop to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas.

Four different Crusaders scored lone goals as Tanner Scharr, Dan Morrissey, Ryan Corrigan and Matt Spivey accounted for one goal apiece. Scharr and Scotty Steele logged one assist each.

Steven Tilmon led the Falcons with five goals, while Justin Rose added four. Kory Lutes and James Sheppard totaled one goal apiece. Tilmon, Lutes and Elliot Gilbert all had one assist. Pfeiffer outshot the Abbey 36-26 and won the ground ball battle 37-24. Both teams had one man-up goal.

Both teams scored one goal in the first period, and Spivey gave the Crusaders their only lead of the game in when he opened the second period with a goal just six seconds into the frame. Pfeiffer responded by scoring five unanswered goals, the first coming with four minutes left in the second quarter to tie the game at four going into the break.

The Falcons opened the second half by scoring four unanswered goals to move their lead to 6-2. Morrissey closed the scoring in the quarter with a goal at the 2:04 mark to halve the Pfeiffer lead to 6-3 going into the fourth.

Pfeiffer scored the first three goals in the final period to extend its lead to 9-3. A man-up goal by Scharr at the 4:25 mark was the only goal of the period for the Abbey. Sheppard and Tilmon closed the scoring for the game.

Abbey goalkeeper Tony Kikola made ten saves and logged a game-high five ground balls. Brian Watson finished with four ground balls to go along with seven face off wins in 11 tries. The Crusaders won the face-off battle 10-9.

Pfeiffer goalkeeper Hayden Kirk stopped seven shots and was one of five Falcons with a team-high four ground balls. Billy Rawson took all 19 of the Falcon face-offs, winning nine. Anthony Lamarca caused four turnovers.
