GREENVILLE, S.C. — Belmont Abbey senior outfielder
Joe Whitaker was named the Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Week Tuesday by the league office.
Whitaker had a big week for Belmont Abbey, producing at least two hits in three conference games at Shorter. He started the week by driving in four and ripping a home run against Lander, and followed that by driving in five on two hits, both home runs in game one against Shorter.
He also scored three runs in the Shorter contest. He then scored twice in each of the final two games against Shorter, registering two hits in game two and three hits, including a double in game three. He finished the week with a .615 batting average, going 8-for-13 with eight runs scored and 10 runs batted in.
Belmont Abbey hosts Catawba in a battle of two of the top teams in the Southeast region. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Abbey Yard.
