BELMONT, N.C. — Fresh after being named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week,
Joe Whitaker continued his strong run of play as the No. 20 Belmont Abbey baseball team hosted No. 5 Catawba in a battle of top Southeast region rivals Tuesday at Abbey Yard.
Whitaker drove in all three Crusader runs and despite that and a strong pitching effort early, Belmont Abbey fell 8-3 to the Indians Tuesday.
The difference proved to be a five-run 11th inning for Catawba after Belmont Abbey rallied to tie the game in the eighth.
Belmont Abbey is now 7-2 following Tuesday's contest while Catawba is 8-1.
