TEMPE, Ariz. — For the third straight year, the Belmont Abbey women's tennis team were recognized for regional awards by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Monday.
Belmont Abbey freshman
Elona Simonov was named the Southeast Region Rookie of the Year while the Crusaders earned the Community Service Award.
Simonov joins
Mackenzie McCarthy (2024) and
Alexis Burkhalter (2023) as previous winners of the Rookie of the Year award. She finished 8-10 over the season and a 4-3 in mark in Conference Carolinas play as a freshman. She won six matches at No. 6 singles and also won at No. 4 and No. 1 earlier this season.
The community service award honors a team that gives back to their campus and their community through tennis and non-tennis pathways. It is the third straight year that the Crusaders have earned the award.
