Women’s Tennis Rallies Past NGU For Spot in Championship Match

SUMTER, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team earned a spot in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship match after rallying for a 4-3 victory over No.3 seed North Greenville Saturday afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center.

The Crusaders rallied after losing the doubles points and earning wins in four of the six doubles matches.

Alexis Burkhalter rallied from dropping the first set at No. 2 singles and earned a 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 victory over Andjela Mrvaljevic. Hanley Riner and Leilany Sanchez got straight set victories at No. 4 and 5 singles, winning 6-4, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-0 in their respective matches.

Rebekka Collyer provided the clinching point for the Abbey at No. 6 singles, earning the win over Lauren Harrelson, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

The Crusaders improve to 21-7 on the season while North Greenville closes its season at 16-9.
