Four Crusader Student-Athletes Named CSC Academic All-District

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Four Belmont Abbey men's soccer student-athletes were named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, Tuesday afternoon.

Davis McBee, Walter Gomez, Kevin Daly and Ian Pitstick were named to the team. McBee earned his spot for the second straight year while Daly and Pitstick are making their first appearances overall.

McBee, a senior midfielder from Gastonia, N.C. put together an outstanding year on the pitch for the Crusaders as his five goals and Conference Carolinas-leading 14 assists earned him the league's Offensive Player of the Year honors. He has been an Academic All-Conference honoree in each of his five years at The Abbey and was on the Dean's List. He completed his undergraduate education with a 4.0 GPA in Business Management and is currently pursuing his MBA at Belmont Abbey.

Gomez, a senior midfielder from Charlotte, N.C., earned his spot as an All-District selection for the second straight year overall. He earned a spot on the team last year at Mount Olive. Gomez led the Crusaders in scoring with seven goals and was a second-team All-Conference Carolinas selection. He completed his undergraduate education with a 3.88 grade-point average with a degree in sport management and coaching.

Daly, a senior defender from Gainesville, Florida, started in 16 matches for the Crusaders this season. He led the way as a back line player for the Crusaders and finished the season with just over 1,200 minutes played. He finished his undergraduate education with a 3.92 grade-point average and a degree in business management.

Pitstick, a sophomore defender from Bakersfield, California, saw an increased role on the back line for Belmont Abbey. He made 12 starts this season and appeared in all 18 matches for the Crusaders. He tallied his first career-goal in a 4-0 win over Erskine in a match that was completed October 9. He currently has a 3.56 grade-point average majoring in theology and philosophy.
 
The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 19.The full CSC Academic All-District® teams are included here.
 
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
