BANNER ELK, N.C. — Trent McConnaughey made a season-high 11 saves as the Belmont Abbey men's soccer closed its season in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament against Lees-McRae Wednesday at Tate Field.
Despite the save total from the goalkeeper, the Bobcats came away with a 3-0 win over the Crusaders.
Belmont Abbey ends the 2025 season with a 6-5-6 record. Lees-McRae is now 5-5-7 and advances to play at top-seeded Francis Marion on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McConnaughey held off an early flurry of Lees-McRae shots, making four saves in the span of a minute early in the contest. He made seven saves in the first half.
- The Bobcats got on the board in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Crusaders took three shots in the first half of play.
- Marcos Frias recorded the lone shot on goal for the Crusaders early in the second half.
- Lees-McRae got its second goal in the 57th minute and capped the scoring in the 71st minute.
- Belmont Abbey finished with five shots total and six corner kicks.
