Sean Johnson added another All-Region honor to their postseason accolades as the trio were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division II Southeast All-Region teams. The full teams were released by the organization Wednesday. Ferguson was tabbed a first-team selection as a utility player while Gobbel and Johnson earned spots on the second team.
Ferguson finished the season with a .352 batting average and started all 53 games for the Crusaders. He hit 16 home runs and drew a team-best 52 walks. He also led the team with a 1.205 OPS.Gobbel led the team in batting average (.371), hits (78), runs batted in (71) and home runs (16) for the Crusaders. In addition, he also led the team with 13 stolen bases on 16 attempts. Johnson finished the year with a .355 average and hit 15 home runs while driving in 44 runs. He also started in every game for Belmont Abbey and was a perfect 7 for 7 in stolen bases during the 2022 season.
All three had been previously second team selections from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) while Gobbel earned second team honors from the D2CCA.
The 2022 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Region Teams and Regional Players of the Year are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First-Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Americans will be announced on Friday, June 3. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 22.
