INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Belmont Abbey has been chosen to participate in the 2022 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, the Division II Baseball Selection Committee announced tonight. The Crusaders are the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 Columbus State in the first round. No. 7 Young Harris and No. 2 seed Wingate are also in Southeast Region #2, which will be played May 19-22 in Wingate, N.C.

Belmont Abbey finished the regular season with a 34-17 record. In Conference Carolinas play, the Crusaders were 21-8, placing third. They are making their seventh appearance all-time and first since 2018. The Abbey is 11-12 (.478) all-time in NCAA postseason play with a third-place national finish in 2009.

Columbus State (42-11) won the Peach Belt Athletic Conference regular-season, but was upset twice by Young Harris (38-17) in the conference tournament, including Sunday's championship game. Wingate is the defending national champion, winning the South Atlantic Conference regular-season title with records of 46-8 overall and 21-2 in league play.

North Greenville, Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC-Pembroke comprise Southeast Region #1 to be played in Tigerville, S.C. The winning teams of each regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional on May 27-28, with the winners of the eight super regionals advancing to the finals of the 2022 NCAA DII Baseball Championship, which will take place at the USA Baseball National Training Center in Cary, N.C., June 4-11.
