BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team opened the season against Newberry at Abbey Yard Saturday. The Crusaders collected six hits on the afternoon with Sean Johnson earning two. The Crusaders are now 0-2 on the year as Newberry improves to 2-0.

Game One

• Griffin Baker started for the Abbey tossing five innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven.
• Zach Aehlert drove in a run with a triple in the seventh.
• Adam Overcash also recorded a hit.

Game Two

• Jason White threw five innings allowing five hits while striking out six.
• Sean Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
• JuJuan Cason, and Matty Bapst also had base knocks in the game.

Up Next

The Crusaders will travel to Newberry Monday to complete the series with a game at 5 PM.
