Belmont Abbey Doubles Up Pfeiffer In Raise the Red Game

Belmont Abbey's women's lacrosse team won 10-5 over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons this afternoon.  The win moves the Crusaders' record to 7-4, with a 3-1 conference record.  Pfeiffer dipped to 3-8 on the season and 3-2 against conference opponents.

Less than five minutes into the contest, Caitlin Cook set up Rebecca Stromberg for the first goal of the game.  Later in the half, Rebecca Luca scored a goal coming off a Pfeiffer foul to make it a 2-0 Abbey lead.  About five minutes later, at the 8:26 mark, Erin Kunkel found the back of the net to give Belmont Abbey a 3-0 advantage.  With 1:32 left in the half, Luca scored her second goal of the day on a free position shot to give the Abbey a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

Luca was the first to score in the second half, as she tallied a goal with 22:44 left in the game.  Pfeiffer scored its first goal at the 19:45 mark, but the Crusaders responded in the next minute as Jordan Hofmeister scored a goal with 18:02 to go.  About a minute later, Cook made it a 7-2 Abbey lead.  The teams traded possessions for about ten minutes until Madison Eberhardt broke the drought with a goal to make it a 8-3 Crusader lead.  The Falcons scored a goal at the 5:18 mark, but Belmont Abbey responded with its own goal just 23 seconds later as Kunkel set up Hofmeister for her second goal of the day.  With 3:10 left in the game Cook handed out her second assist of the day as she set up Stromberg for the final Abbey goal of the day.

On the day, Luca led the Crusaders' offensive attack with three goals.  Hofmeister and Stromberg each scored twice on just two shots.  Cook recorded a goal and two assists, while Kunkel chipped in a goal and an assist.  Eberhardt also scored once for the Abbey.  Kassie Easter paced the defense with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls.  Mackenzie Miller caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls, while also winning two draw controls.  Katelin Glass led the team with three draw control wins.  She also caused three Pfeiffer turnovers.  Goalie Reilly Johnson earned seven saves.

The Crusaders will be back in action Wednesday, April 6 when it visits Queens (NC) for a 7:00PM matchup.
