Crusaders Earn Key Conference Road Win at Barton

WILSON, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team earned a key Conference Carolinas road win as the Crusaders defeated Barton 17-7 Saturday at Truist Stadium.

Katelyn Miller scored four goals and added an assist while Addyson Greenspan and Abbey McCarthy added three goals each. Summer Eddinger made nine saves in goal to earn the win.

The win ensures that Belmont Abbey will be no worse than the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas tournament.

Belmont Abbey improves to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in Conference Carolinas play while Barton is now 5-9 overall and 3-4 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Emerson Sheyda got the scoring for Belmont Abbey with the first two goals of the game.
  • Greenspan and McCarthy tallied the other goals as the Crusaders took a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Crusaders scored the first goals of the game before Barton got on the board with five minutes left in the first half.
  • Barton scored the first two goals of the second half but Belmont Abbey answered with three unanswered goals from McCarthy, Greenspan and Miller.
  • Triniti Cassidy scored two goals in the third quarter to give the Crusaders a 15-5 advantage entering the final quarter.
  • Miller and McCarthy capped the scoring with a goal each in the fourth quarter.
  • Taylor Tobin finished with three caused turnovers and five ground balls.
  • Greenspan also had five draw controls while Yianna Giannoulis had four.
  • The Crusaders finished with 35 shots, 27 on goal.
