SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Triniti Cassidy matched her career-best single game scoring total with seven goals as Belmont Abbey pulled away for a 15-11 victory over Converse in the regular season finale Thursday evening at Weisiger Stadium.
Belmont Abbey led by two goals going into the fourth quarter before the Crusaders pulled away with five of the first six goals in the final 15 minutes.
Abbey McCarthy scored four goals for the Crusaders while
Macy Lashells finished with three.
Belmont Abbey closes the regular season with an 11-5 overall record and 7-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Converse is 7-9 overall, 4-5 in the league,
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cassidy got the evening off to a good start for the Abbey by scoring the first two goals of the game.
- Emerson Sheyda added a goal off an Addyson Greenspan assist to make it 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
- Lashells scored two of the three goals early in the second quarter as Belmont Abbey led 9-5 at halftime.
- After being held without a goal in third quarter, the Crusaders answered with two goals from Cassidy and another form McCarthy to begin the fourth quarter.
- Cassidy and McCarthy scored two goals in the span of 39 seconds to help put the game away.
- Taylor Tobin had a pair of caused turnovers and three ground balls in the win.
- Summer Eddinger made 10 saves in the win. It is the fifth time this season that she has made double-digit saves in a game this year.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey will be the No. 3 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament that starts on Monday.
- The Crusaders will host the No. 6 seed Valkyries at 4 p.m. Monday at Alumni Field.
