BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team closed out its home slate for the regular season in a close battle with Young Harris Wednesday at Alumni Field.
It was a back-and-forth battle but it was the Mountain Lions who came away with an 11-10 victory over the Crusaders.
Addyson Greenspan and
Abbey McCarthy scored three goals each for the Abbey while
Summer Eddinger made 11 saves in goal.
With Wednesday's result, Young Harris is 10-5 on the season while Belmont Abbey is 9-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McCarthy scored two of her three goals in the first quarter as Belmont Abbey took a 3-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.
- Greenspan scored a pair of free-position goals in the second quarter as the Crusaders had a 6-5 halftime advantage.
- Katelyn Miller scored both of her goals in the first half for the Abbey.
- Young Harris scored three straight goals to start the second half before Belmont Abbey answered with three unanswered goals to recapture a 9-8 lead.
- With the score tied in the fourth quarter, Young Harris re-took the lead early before Greenspan's tying goal with 9:28 remaining.
- Young Harris scored the go-ahead goal with just under four minutes remaining.
- The Crusaders had a final chance to tie late but were turned away.
- Belmont Abbey out-shot Young Harris 42-26.
- Greenspan had four of Belmont Abbey's 28 ground balls and also had three draw controls.
