The nationally second ranked Mount Olive Trojans scored the first six runs of the game and the Belmont Abbey defense was charged with four errors as the Trojans took game one of a three-game Conference Carolinas set with a 6-2 win in eight innings. The two teams reached the ninth inning before an ice storm stopped play. The game reverts back to the last completed inning, which was the eighth. No stats that were recorded in the ninth inning count. Mount Olive improves to 15-1 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Crusaders drop to 11-2-1 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas.

Mount Olive scored an unearned run in the first as Jermaine Berry singled home Zak Orrison, who was hit by a pitch earlier. One inning later, Bryan Dulavey scored on an error off the bat of Matt Petrone.

The Trojans added one more in the fourth and three more in the fifth to move its lead to 6-0, but the Abbey began to get back into the contest in the bottom of the sixth. After the first two batters were retired, Kennan Stanley tripled to right center and scored on Ryan Allen's bunt single, on which he reached second on a bad throw. Michael Falsetti then doubled home Allen for the second and what turned out to be the final run.

Matt Dillon earned the win as he went the distance, striking out 11 and walking one. He gave up two runs on eight hits. Cody Stull took the loss after giving up six runs, two earned, on eight hits in seven innings.

Both teams finished with eight hits as Ian Vazquez, Stanley, Allen and Falsetti each recorded two. Berry and Mike Mercurio both had two hits for the Trojans.
