Kennan Stanley spotted Ryan Allen a two run lead with a first inning homer, and Emilio Pagan nailed down his fifth save of 2013 as Belmont Abbey defeated Carson-Newman 5-2 in Jefferson City, TN. The win is the Crusaders fourth in five outings, and stretches their record to 15-5-1.

Stanley's third long ball of the season came two batters after Pagan doubled. The double was the first of three appearances Pagan made on the bases. Stanley's clout was followed in the third with an RBI single, scoring Ian Vazquez. Vazquez was the other Abbey batter to have a multi-hit game.

In the fourth, Levi Wright drove a fastball beyond the elevated left field fence to connect on his fourth homer of the season. Stanley would drive in one final run to take the team lead in the ninth, as his high chop to short offered the freshman from Jacksonville, Florida time to beat the throw at first, plating Vazquez for the second time on the day.

On the mound, Ryan Allen would never allow the Eagles hitters the chance to be comfortable as he utilized three pitches with pinpoint precision to earn the win for the Abbey. Ryan left the game after five innings, yielding one earned run on four hits. He also limited Carson-Newman to two free passes, while striking out a pair.

Allen handed the lead to Dakota Irwin, and the Wilmington, North Carolina junior dazzled in his best effort of the campaign. Irwin went one and two-thirds innings, striking out four, mixing two explosive pitches with command. Pagan worked out of a bases loaded jam, surrendering only one earned run in the ninth, to notch his team-leading fifth save. The win takes Allen's record to 2-0 on the season, and lends a bit of respite to a bullpen feeling the effects of the busiest segment of the season.

The Crusaders will return from the Smoky Mountains looking to earn their second win of the week against Philadelphia University tomorrow afternoon at Abbey Yard. First pitch is slated for three, while the Abbey Sports Network will air the pre-game on WGNC 1450am at 2:45. Follow the Crusaders on twitter: @abbeyathletics, #raisethered.
