The Belmont Abbey baseball team finished a three game sweep of St. Andrews on Monday afternoon by defeating the Knights 12-0 at Abbey Yard. The Abbey improves to 15-7 overall and 7-2 in Conference Carolinas, while St. Andrews falls to 5-13 overall and 0-6 in Conference Carolinas.

The Crusaders jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Ian Vazquez drew a leadoff walk, but a pair of fly outs by Gabby Amor and Justin Vasquez left the Abbey with only one out to work with. Emilio Pagan kept the inning alive with a two out double to chase home Vazquez and make the score 1-0.

The Abbey increased its advantage in the bottom of the third. A leadoff double by Vasquez and a walk by Pagan left runners on first and second. Joey Frabasile followed with a double to score Vasquez and move Pagan to third. A sacrifice fly to center field by Dan Brion plated Pagan for the second run of the inning. An infield single by Stephen Mullis moved Frabasile to third. Caleb Shore followed with another infield single pushed Frabasile across to push the lead to 4-0.

After a scoreless fourth the Crusaders scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to increase the lead to 8-0. Following a Frabasile single and a walk by Brion, Kyle Buchanan recorded a bunt single to load the bases. Mullis flied out to second for the first out and was followed by sacrifice fly by Shore to chase home Frabasile. A single by Vazquez plated Brion. Matt McCue misplayed the ball in center field allowing Buchanan to score and Vazquez to advance to second. Vazquez then scored all the way from second on a wild pitch.

The bottom of the seventh saw another four run explosion to increase its final advantage to 12-0. Shore led off with a triple and was plated by a Vazquez sacrifice fly. Amor followed with a double and scored on a single by Vasquez. Pagan grounded out to first, but that allowed Vasquez to advance to second. Frabasile doubled to force in Vasquez and he scored the final run when Matt Mazzolla blooped a pinch-hit single to right.

Frabasile had a solid game for the Crusaders going 4-5 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. Shore finished 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Vasquez went 2-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Vazquez was 1-2 on the day with two RBI and two runs scored while drawing a pair of walks.

Gabe Wallmeyer picked up the win after pitching eight shutout innings while recording six strikeouts. He scattered six hits, all singles.
