MURFREESBORO, N.C. — Belmont Abbey head baseball coach
Chris Anderson earned his 400th career win as the Crusaders defeated Chowan 16-2 in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Hawkins Field.
Anderson reached his milestone as the Crusaders capped a three-game sweep of the Hawks. At the close of the regular season, he has a .617 winning percentage and all-time record of 400-248-2.
Belmont Abbey closes the regular season with a 36-12 overall record and 26-7 record in Conference Carolinas play. Chowan closes the season with a 4-35 overall record and 4-29 mark in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders jumped out to a fast-start thanks to a three-run home from Joe Whitakder and two-run home run from Jake Bidoglio.
- Whitaker's home run was his 22nd of the season, good for second in the country in that category.
- Belmont Abbey added a run in the second inning on an RBI single from Caleb Burr.
- After Chowan scored in the bottom of the second inning, the Crusaders broke the game open with six runs in the third inning.
- The highlights of the inning included a home run from Jack Boyles and a bases-clearing triple from Jacob Steinberg.
- Matthew Fattore added a solo home run in the fourth inning.
- Sawyer Osborne earned the win with a quality start, allowing just one run on hit and recording two strikeouts in five innings.
- Chowan added a second run in the sixth inning but the Crusaders added a sacrifice fly from Boyles in the seventh inning.
- Davin Miller-Madden pitched two innings of relief and recorded two strikeouts.
- The Crusaders capped the scoring in the eighth with RBIs from Boyles and Brady Roberts.
- Boyles led Belmont Abbey with three hits while five other Crusaders had two hits each.
- MJ Doan and Seth Brooks each pitched scoreless innings to close out the game.

- Belmont Abbey will compete in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament that begins Wednesday from CaroMont Health Park in Gastonia.
