MARS HILL, N.C. — Caleb Burr continued his hot streak at the plate with a pair of home runs as the Belmont Abbey baseball team closed out its nonconference slate with a contest at Mars Hill Tuesday at Henderson Field.
Despite the two home runs, it was the Lions who came away with the 7-6 win in 12 innings over the Crusaders.
With Tuesday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 33-12 on the season while Mars Hill is 25-21-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Joe Whitaker got the game started with his 21st home run of the year in the first inning.
- Carson Dahle got the Crusaders off to a good start on the mound with 4+ innings of allowing just one run and four hits.
- After Mars Hill put up three runs in the fifth and then another in the sixth, Belmont Abbey began a rally with a pinch-hit two-run home run from Jake Bidoglio in the seventh.
- Burr hit his first home run of the game in the eighth to put Belmont Abbey back ahead.
- Mars Hill answered with a run in the eighth and Burr came through once again with a leadoff home run in the 10th.
- The Lions answered with a run off a wild pitch in the 10th and won with an RBI double in the 12th inning.
