The Belmont Abbey baseball team rapped out ten hits and three
Crusader pitchers held Wingate to just six hits in a combined
shutout as the Crusaders earned an 8-0 win at Wingate this evening.
The win moves the Abbey's record to 18-9, while Wingate, which was
shutout for the first time this season, falls to 14-14. It is the
Abbey's fifth shutout of the year.
Abbey second baseman Gabby Amor had a homer and three RBI to
lead the Crusader attack. Stephen Mullis added a homer and two RBI
for the Crusaders, while Dan Brion was two-for-three with two runs
scored. Caleb Shore went two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored
for the Crusaders.
After three scoreless innings, the Crusaders got on the board in
the fourth. Mullis started the offense with a two-run homer to
right. Shore added an RBI single to make it 3-0.
Belmont Abbey added three more runs in the sixth when Amor
connected on a three-run homer to left center, pushing the lead to
six. An RBI single from Shore in the eighth made it 7-0. He would
score the final run of the night on a passed ball, making the final
margin 8-0.
Sophomore lefthander Cody Stull got the win for the Crusaders,
throwing 5 and two-thirds shutout innings, striking out five while
allowing four hits, improving to 3-2 on the year. Redshirt junior
righthander Blake Parsley took the loss, falling to 1-1. He allowed
three runs on four hits in one inning of work, striking out
one.
