Women's Lacrosse Edged By Pfeiffer, 10-9 In Conference Carolinas Tournament Semifinal

Pfeiffer scored two back-to-back goals in the final eight minutes to overtake a one goal Abbey lead as the Falcons moved past the Crusaders10-9 in the semifinal round of the 2011 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

Belmont Abbey was on the attack early scoring two quick goals to start the game. Natalie Marvin broke the scoring drought for the Falcons with a goal at the 18:06 mark. Another goal by the Crusaders would put the three seed up 3-1 at just over the 15 minute mark.

The second half of period one was all Pfeiffer as the Falcons scored six goals to Belmont Abbey's two taking a 7-5 lead heading in to the break. Sarah Hebberd notched three goals during the Falcons' spurt.

The Crusaders got on the board first in the second half finding two early goals once again tying the game up at seven with 26:28 on the clock. Shannon Bonnel answered for the Falcons giving them the lead back for about 10 minutes.

Laura Dowd responded for the Crusaders striking again tying the game back up at eight. Her goal was soon followed by one from Elyse Mohn giving Belmont Abbey the lead for the first time since the 7:27 mark in the first.

The Crusaders lead didn't hold up as Hebberd notched her game-tying and game-winning goals sealing the victory for the Falcons.

Hebberd led all players with five goals on the day. Marvin finished with two for the Falcons. Amanda Smith collected seven draw controls and four caused turnovers.

Mohn led the Crusaders with four goals while Dowd contributed a hat trick. Tory Morgan took the loss in goal while getting 16 stops.
