The Belmont Abbey baseball team moved to 18-6 overall and 4-1 in
Conference Carolinas with a 12-5 win at St. Andrews in the opening
game of a three-game Conference Carolinas baseball series. The
Knights fall to 5-16 overall and 1-6 in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders were down 4-0 after three but scored in every
inning from the fourth inning on to earn the win.
Justin Vasquez led the Abbey offense with a two for four day
with a home run and three RBI. Roberto Sanchez finished three for
five with three RBI, while Kyle Buchanan was two for four with two
runs batted in.
Taylor West picked up the win in relief of Steven Thiele. West,
the second of three Abbey pitchers, worked five and two-thirds
innings of scoreless relief, scattering two hits and striking out
five. Thiele pitched the first two and one-thirds innings, giving
up five hits and striking out three.
