The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team battled Florida Southern to a 2-2 draw this afternoon at Alumni Field as part of Homecoming Festivities. The draw, the first of the year for the Abbey, moves the records to 5-6-1 for the Crusaders and 4-6-1 for Florida Southern.

The Crusaders scored just 22 seconds into the match as Timmi Borges Da Silva raced down a long pass and fired a shot past Andres Guzman for an early lead.

Belmont Abbey maintained its lead until Florida Southern turned the tables on the Crusaders, as the Mocassin's Zach Hoffsteter beat Louis Liberatore just 45 ticks into the second half to deadlock the game at one.

Ten minutes later, the Abbey committed a foul in the box, which forced a penalty kick, but Liberatore swatted away Ashley Holmes's spot kick to preserve the tie.

Three minutes after the Florida Southern missed penalty, Da Silva was pulled down in the box, and Jack Reid buried the ensuing spot kick to put the Abbey back on top, 2-1.

Belmont Abbey stood firm until the 71st minute when Hofstetter struck again, tying the contest at two with his second goal of the match.

From there, neither team could find the back of the net as the Crusaders and Moccassins drew.

Florida Southern held a slim 13-12 edge in shots and finished with a 12-6 win in corner kicks.
