Box score

The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team fell to North Georgia 3-2 in double overtime this evening in the third match of the Laker Shootout, hosted by Clayton State University. North Georgia is now 1-0-1, while the Abbey falls to 0-2.

The Crusaders built an early 2-0 lead, finding the back of the net twice in a span of 1:30. Jose Penaloza put the Crusaders on top at the 22:14 mark as he buried home a shot from the top of the penalty area off of a pass from Gianluca D'Agata.

Just 1:30 later, Jack Reid buried a penalty kick to move the Crusader lead to 2-0. Six minutes later, North Georgia pulled one back with a goal from Chris Aiken, and 19 seconds later, Ben Stegman deadlocked the match at two when he found the back of the net off of a cross.

That was all of the scoring until the 112th minute when Ben Chedgy scored the golden goal for the win.

North Georgia outshot the Abbey 17-9 and held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks.
