The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team dropped its first
Conference Carolinas game of the year, falling to the visiting
Pfeiffer University Falcons 16-13 this afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Falcons remain unbeaten at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Abbey moves to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in
Conference Carolinas.
Laurie Jordan led the Abbey with four goals, while Susan
Kileavey and Emily Hudgins both had three. Amanda Jones had two and
Laura Dowd added the other. Lindsay Connolly had three assists and
Brianna Dignan had the other.
Jessica Kennedy led the Falcons with seven goals on ten shots,
while Heidi Karaszkiewicz and Shannon Bonnel both had two each.
Tori Binder, Alex Cook, Allie Gamble, Sarah Hebberd and Jessica
Moulton all added one each. Binder had three assists, while Cook,
Gamble, Karaszkiewicz and Jessica Kennedy all had one. Pfeiffer
outshot the Abbey 32-23 and held advantages in ground balls (27-22)
and draw control wins (16-15).
Pfeiffer goalkeeper Caitlin Ryan made six saves to go along with
a game-high nine ground balls, while Natalie Crenshaw made ten
saves and scooped up three ground balls.
The Abbey led 8-5 with 9:29 to go in the first but the Falcons
scored the final four goals of the half to claim a lead it would
never lose. The Crusaders would close the lead to 11-10 on a free
position goal by Kileavy with 24:42 left, and again at 13-12 with
15:03 left on a Jones goal, but Pfeiffer scored three unanswered
goals in a four minute span to pull away.
