Crusaders Celebrate Senior Day with Victory over Ferrum

BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team had plenty of reasons to celebrate Saturday as the Crusaders defeated conference newcomer Ferrum 26-2 at Alumni Field on Senior Day.

The Crusaders had eight different players record multi-goal games, including Olivia Ritchie and Macy Lashells, who finished with four goals each. Katelyn Miller, Kimberleigh Hansberry and Abbey McCarthy tallied three goals while Triniti Cassidy, Alena Clough and Emerson Sheyda each had two.

Four Crusaders — Kate Duell, Meghan Adams, Faith Piser and Summer Eddinger — were honored in a pregame ceremony.

With the win, Belmont Abbey improved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Ferrum is now 2-10 overall and 0-4 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders took an early lead just over two minutes in with one of Miller's three goals of an assist from Addyson Greenspan. Greenspan had a goal and three assists on the day.
  • Belmont Abbey added another goal less than a minute later with one of McCarthy's three tallies. She also added three assists.
  • After both teams exchanged goals, Belmont Abbey had a run of three goals in 1:05 of game action in the first quarter.
  • Ritchie and Lashells tallied two goals each in the second quarter while Piser scored her first goal of the season in the period.
  • Hansberry capped off the hat trick with the opening goal of the second half followed by a goal from Lashells.
  • After Ferrum added its second goal, Belmont Abbey closed out the game with nine unanswered goals.
  • Eddinger and Shannon Walker each tallied a save.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 43 shots, 32 on goal.
  • Cassidy let Belmont Abbey with five draw controls.
  • The Crusaders finished with 30 ground balls led by three from Hansberry.
  • Belmont Abbey also finished with 17 caused turnovers from 13 different players.
