UNC Pembroke scored nine runs in the third inning added four more in the seventh as the Braves moved to 11-3 with a 17-3 win over Belmont Abbey this afternoon in college baseball action. The Abbey is now 8-8.

Brad Isom earned the win after holding the Abbey to a pair of runs on six hits in three innings, walking one. Nate Cudney, the first of seven Abbey pitchers, took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in two innings. He struck out one and walked one.

After a scoreless first, UNCP broke ahead in the second with a solo homer by Jason Coker, but the Abbey pushed ahead with two runs in its half, as Josh Frazier ripped a two-out single and scored on a double by Roland Rodriguez. Caleb Shore followed with a single that brought home Rodriguez for a 2-1 Crusader lead.

The lead was short lived as the Braves scored nine runs in the top of the third, sending 12 men to the plate to open up a 10-2 lead. One inning later, UNCP moved it to 11-2 as Tom Porricelli doubled home Coker.

The Abbey got one back in its half as Rodriguez tripled home Ronda, who reached by error earlier. The Braves added another in the fifth as Seth Kivett scored on a passed ball.

That was all of the scoring until the seventh when the Braves pushed their lead to 16-3 by scoring four runs, two coming on a single by Coker, who later scored on a wild pitch. They closed the scoring in the top of the ninth with one run, as Matt Ingold singled home Tyler Wood, who ripped a leadoff double.

UNC Pembroke recorded 20 hits as Coker finished four for six with five RBI, while Porricelli was four for five with three RBI. Joe Mangum also drove in three runs.

The Abbey finished with ten hits as Rodriguez and Frazier both led the way with two each.
