Belmont Abbey senior midfielder Laurie Jordan eight Crusaders
with five goals on 11 shots as Abbey women's lacrosse team extended
its winning streak to three with an 18-10 win over the visiting
Saint Andrews Presbyterian Knights this afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Abbey moves to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in Conference Carolinas,
while the Knights drop to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in Conference
Carolinas.
Jordan scored five goals on 11 shots with eight draw control
wins and a ground ball. Tara Chmil added three goals, while Kristyn
Kinsey, Lindsay Connolly, Brianna Dignan and Emily Hudgins all
scored two. Susan Killeavy and Elyse Mohn both added one each.
Killeavy handed out a pair of assists while Connolly, Kinsey and
Morgan Cross each had one.
Saint Andrews was led by Megan Jolly and Kim McDaniel, who both
had four goals, while Anna Egeln and Victoria Bickett had lone
goals apiece. Jolly had two assists and Egeln had one.
Belmont Abbey outshot Saint Andrews 40-26 as it erased an early
1-0 lead with five unanswered goals in a span on nine minutes to
take control of the game. Jordan started and ended the run, while
Kinsey, Dignan and Chmil contributed the others. After Jordan's
second tally, Jolly scored for the Knights, but Chmil had an answer
on a free postion shot to move the lead to 6-2. Connolly followed
with her first goal, and the two teams traded goals after that,
punctuated by a Bickett goal to close the Crusader lead to 8-4.
The Abbey responded with seven unanswered goals, the first five
to close the opening half, to pull ahead 15-4. Jolly scored again,
but Kinsey and Jordan had an answer three minutes apart to move the
lead to 17-5.
Saint Andrews scored five straight goals in the final 13 minutes
to close the lead to 17-10, but Hudgins ended the scoring with a
free position shot with 43 seconds left to provide the winning
margin.
Belmont Abbey won the draw control battle 18-12 and held the
ground ball edge by a 21-17 count. Natalie Crenshaw led the way
with five ground balls and six saves before giving way to Hannah
Oliverius, who made four saves and scooped up four ground balls.
Hudgins and Crenshaw led the Abbey with two caused turnovers
apiece.
Knights goalkeeper Morgan Achilles made 12 saves and collected
five ground balls. McDaniel led the Knights with four draw control
wins.
