BELMONT, N.C. -- Abbey McCarthy scored four goals and added an assist, but Mount Olive used a late surge to defeat Belmont Abbey 11-7 in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action Wednesday night. The Trojans scored the last four goals of the game over the final 9:36 of the game.
The Crusaders fall to 6-4 overall, 2-1 in league play, while the Trojans improve to 5-3, 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katelyn Miller, Triniti Cassidy and Abba Walsh tallied a goal each with Miller adding two assists for three points.
- Yianna Giannoulis won four draw controls with Taylor Tobin grabbing three.
- Summer Eddinger made nine saves and had a team-high five ground balls.
- After falling behind 1-0, Belmont Abbey scored four straight over the next 16 minutes. But the Trojans answered with four straight of its own, cutting the lead to 4-2 by intermission and taking a 5-4 lead with 9:51 left in the third.
- The Crusaders tied the game at 7-7 with 9:55 to play, but the Trojans went ahead 19 seconds later.
