The Belmont Abbey baseball team erased a 6-3 deficit by scoring the five runs in the seventh inning to complete a three-game Conference Carolinas sweep of Anderson University with a 10-6 win this afternoon at Abbey Yard. The Crusaders improve to 8-7 overall and 6-2 in Conference Carolinas, while the Trojans fall to 6-12 overall and 2-6 in Conference Carolinas.

Anderson jumped ahead 1-0 in the first on an RBI single by Matt Hill, but the Crusaders got it right back in the bottom of the inning as Roland Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch.

The Trojans regained the lead one inning later with two runs, one on a leadoff homer by Jonathan Romano and the other on an RBI double by Hill.

One inning later the Abbey cut the deficit to one as Justin Baxley brought home Chris Vazquez with a sacrifice fly. The Trojans responded by scoring two in the fifth to push their lead to 5-2, but the Abbey rallied with three runs to knot the game at five. Ryan Ronda ripped an RBI single, Daniel Torrente plated Sobol with a sacrifice fly and Baxley scored on a passed ball for the tying run.

Anderson moved back ahead in the sixth as Ryan Saxon singled home Hill, and that was all of the scoring until the bottom of the seventh when the Crusaders sent ten men to the plate en route to scoring five runs. Ronda led off with a double and moved to third on a flyout by Torrente. Josh Frazier tied the game at six with a single to left that scored Ronda. Frazier moved to second on that single when the leftfielder bobbled the ball and he advanced to third on a groundout by Rodriguez. Caleb Shore gave the Abbey the lead for good with a suicide squeeze that plated Frazier.

Danny Brion kept the rally going with a hit-and-run single to right that moved Shore to third, who then scored on a single by Vazquez. Sobol followed with a ringing single to left that brought home Brion, and after another pitching change, Vazquez closed the scoring when he came in on a wild pitch.

Nate Cudney earned the win in relief, as he allowed one hit over one and two-thirds scoreless innings. Bryson Graydon took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in a third of an inning.
