The 17th-ranked Belmont Abbey women's soccer team earned a 5-1
road win at Converse this evening in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The Abbey moves to 11-0-0 overall and 6-0-0 in Conference
Carolinas, while Converse drops to 1-9-1 overall and 1-3-1 in
Conference Carolinas. The Abbey has now outscored its opponents
32-4 this season as it has recorded nine shutouts in 11
matches.
Abbey freshman Emily Archer put the Abbey ahead for good in the
15th minute, striking on an unassisted tally. 20 minutes later,
classmate Katie Rastello scored her first career goal, taking a
feed from Nicole Voets for the final goal of the half.
Three minutes into the second half, the lead grew to 3-0 as
freshman Megan Gitchell scored her first career goal off of a
corner kick. Five minutes later, senior Kelsey Lovell, who was the
Crusaders goalkeeper last year, scored her first goal in two years
when she buried a corner kick from Kristin Foster into the back of
the net for a 4-0 Crusader lead.
Foster assisted the final Abbey goal of the night, sending a
pass to Connie Axiotis, who scored for the third-straight game at
the 67:07 mark.
Converse scored its goal in the 73rd minute as Lindsay Eller
assisted Jana Gentry for the goal.
Belmont Abbey outshot Converse 28-5 and held a 7-1 advantage in
corner kicks. Anna Donaldson collected one save in 90 minutes.
