SALISBURY, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team headed out on the road for the first time in the 2026 campaign as the Crusaders faced off against No. 12 Catawba Wednesday at Frock Field.
The Crusaders battled but it was the Indians who came away with the 4-0 victory. It was a rematch of last season's NCAA Southeast Regional opening round match.
It was also a contest of two of the top teams in the Southeast region with Catawba and Belmont Abbey coming in ranked second and sixth, respectively. Catawba scored twice in the first half and added a third late in the second half.
Both teams are now 2-1 following Wednesday's contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Catawba got on the board with a goal in the eighth minute and followed that later in the 35th minute.
- Kate Jaques took the first shot of the match in the Crusaders in the 11th minute.
- Belmont Abbey's first shot on goal came early in the second half from Caroline Roche.
- The Indians capped the scoring with final goals in the 79th and 86th minute.
- The Crusaders finished with nine shots with Haley Long leading with three and two from Hannah Willis. Catawba had 15 shots, six on target.
- Ryleigh Dougherty made two saves in goal for the Abbey.

- Belmont Abbey heads on the road to face Lees-McRae to open Conference Carolinas play on Saturday.
