BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team earned its second consecutive comeback win to open the season as the Crusaders rallied to defeat Wingate 2-1 Saturday at Alumni Field.
Trailing midway through the first half, the Crusaders earned an equalizer in the late stages of the first half before
Hanna Doerr scored in the 65th minute to help the Abbey complete the rally.
Belmont Abbey improves to 2-0 on the season while Wingate is now 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Doerr took the first shot of the match for the Abbey in the ninth minute.
- Wingate's goal came off a corner kick in the 20th minute.
- Haley Long had the first shot on goal for the Crusaders midway through the half.
- Belmont Abbey got the equalizer in the 41st minute when a cross from Long deflected off of a Wingate defender into the goal.
- Doerr's goal came off an assist from Maris Toppin.
- Ryliegh Dougherty made four saves in goal for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 12 shots compared to seven for Wingate.
