After dropping the first game 25-17, the Belmont Abbey
volleyball team won three-straight from the visiting Queens
University Royals as the Crusaders earned a 3-1 win this evening at
the Wheeler Center for its first win of the season. Game scores
were 17-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-10. Belmont Abbey improves to 1-5
overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Royals slip to
3-2 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey hit .122 for the match (46 kills, 30 errors on 131
total attacks) including a torrid .407 clip (13 kills, two errors
and 27 total attacks) in the match-clinching fourth game when it
led by as much as 20-5, while limiting Queens to a -160 attack
(four kills, eight errors on 25 total attacks).
Freshman Angela Jubb led a pair of Crusaders in double figure
kills with 12 on 25 total attacks, while Morgan Kirby posted ten.
Kay Schellenburg added nine an 19 assists, while Molly Gwaltney had
14 assists. Remick Tiller led all players with 12 digs, while
Steffanie Holler posted nine. Jubb chipped in with eight as the
Crusaders won the dig battle 48-47. Jubb would add three block
solos and three block assists as part of eight Crusader total
blocks for the evening.
Queens, which finished with a .000 total attack (30 kills, 30
errors on 113 total attacks) as Kerri Kemp and Brittany Harvey each
led the Royals with eight. Erinn Moore handed out 23 assists.
Libero Avery Griggs posted ten digs.
