Women's Lacrosse Advances To Conference Championship Game With 5-3 Win Over Pfeiffer

The #2-seeded Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team beat Pfeiffer 5-3 in the Conference Carolinas semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. The Crusaders (14-4 overall) will play the tournament host, #1-seeded Limestone, on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the tournament championship game. The Falcons fall to 11-7 with today's result.

The Crusaders' Samantha Hooker (Salisbury, Md.) and Laurie Jordan (Davidsonville, Md.) scored two goals apiece as Shannon Farden (Oswego, N.Y.) added another. Tara Chmil (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Hooker each tallied an assist. Briana Dignan (Nashua, N.H.) had a team-high two draw controls as Chmil led Belmont Abbey with four ground balls. Kate Gavin (Pasadena, Md.) had 10 saves in goal.

Heidi Karaszkiewicz (Glen Burnie, Md.) scored two goals for Pfeiffer. Amanda Smith (Leesburg, Va.) also scored for the Falcons. Kelly McConnell (Woodbridge, Va.) had two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Caitlin Ryan (Perth, Australia) recorded six saves.

The Abbey had a 3-1 lead at halftime, but both teams scored twice in the second period.

The Crusaders edged the Falcons in shots (18-15), ground balls (13-12), and draw controls (7-3). Belmont Abbey was 17-17 in clears as Pfeiffer was 19-26.
