Baseball Falls To Erskine 5-1 In Conference Carolinas Tournament

The top-seeded Belmont Abbey baseball team fell to the fourth-seeded Erskine Flying Fleet this afternoon in a winner's bracket game at Fleming Stadium. Erskine advances to tomorrow's winner's bracket final tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. as it improves to 34-11, while the Abbey, which will play again at 7:00 p.m. tonight, falls to 27-20.

Erskine senior righthander Mike Moore earned the win in a complete-game effort, allowing one run on five hits while striking out 12. Andrew Morton took the loss, giving up five runs on 13 hits in seven and one-thirds innings, striking out two.

The Flying Fleet jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the second, added three more in the sixth and one more in the seventh to build a 5-0 lead. The Abbey scored its run in the seventh on a leadoff homer by Daniel Kassouf, his 18th of the year.

Kassouf had three of the Abbey's five hits, while Tyler McKenzie and Spencer Sobol had the other two.
