Nine Second Half Goals Lifts Women's Lacrosse Past St. Andrews Presbyterian, 14-6

Leading 5-4 at the half, the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team outscored St. Andrews Presbyterian 9-2 in the second half as the Crusaders earned a 14-6 win over the visiting Lady Knights this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Abbey, winners of seven of its last nine, improves to 11-4 overall and 7-3 in Conference Carolinas, while St. Andrews Presbyterian falls to 8-5 overall and 5-4 in Conference Carolinas.

The Lady Knights led 3-1 halfway through the opening stanza, but the Crusaders scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead. After a Knights goal with 1:06 left to knot the contest at four, Laurie Jordan gave the Abbey the lead for good with the second of her five goals with 19 seconds left to lift the Abbey into the lead at 5-4.

Belmont Abbey dominated the second half, limiting the Lady Knights to just two goals while its offense exploded for nine, the final three coming by Jordan in a five minute span to provide the winning margin.

Jordan finished with five goals, while Samantha Hooker had three. Tara Chmil and Kristyn Kinsey both had a pair, while Shannon Farden and Brianna Dignan both had one. Chmil tied for the game-high with two assists, while Morgan Cross, Kerri Gut, Hooker and Jordan all had one each.

St. Andrews Presbyterian was led by Kim McDaniel and Cara Manas, who both finished with two goals, while Kerrie Brown and Kelsey Binggeli both had one. Brown had two assists and Katie Wright had one.

Defensively, the Abbey cause 16 of the Lady Knights 20 turnovers as senior All-American defender Theresa Nolan had five to go along with five ground balls. Chmil, Amanda Jones and Michelle Babcock all had two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Kate Gavin made nine saves and led all players with six ground balls as the Abbey held the edge in that category 28-21.

St. Andrews Presbyterian goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey made 12 saves, nine in the first half, while scooping up a team-high four ground balls.
