Seven different Belmont Abbey players scored goals as the
Crusaders women's lacrosse team defeated the visiting Pfeiffer
University Falcons 14-7 this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Abbey,
winners of six of its last seven, improve to 8-3 overall and 5-3 in
Conference Carolinas, while Pfeiffer drops to 6-3 overall and 4-2
in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey never trailed and led by as many as nine goals as
Meghan Darley and Shannon Farden led the way with three goals each.
Brianna Dignan, Tara Chmil and Laurie Jordan all had two goals,
while Samantha Hooker and Kerri Gut both had one. Dignan led the
way with a pair of assists, while Chmil, Farden, Darley, Gut,
Hooker and Jordan all had one.
Defensively the Crusaders caused 11 of the Falcons 18 turnovers
as All-American defender Theresa Nolan led the way with three to go
along with four ground balls, while Trish Kelly posted two caused
turnovers. Belmont Abbey registered 21 ground balls as Nolan and
goalkeeper Theresa Nolan both led all players with four each. Gavin
made four saves in the net.
Alexandra Cook and Elizabeth Melesh led the Falcons with two
goals apiece.
