Baseball Falls To Lenoir-Rhyne, 12-4

The Belmont Abbey baseball team fell to the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 12-4 this afternoon at Abbey Yard. Lenoir-Rhyne extends its winning streak to eight as it improves to 12-4, while the Abbey slips to 8-9.

Ryan Hairston earned the win after allowing two runs, one earned, in six innings. He walked one and did not strike out a batter. Nate Cudney took the loss after giving up six runs, four earned, on nine hits in four innings. He struck out a pair and walked one.

After the Bears jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first, the Abbey got one back in its half as Josh Frazier led off with a triple and scored on a groundout to shortstop by Roland Rodriguez.

L-R would respond with one in the third, two more in the fourth, and one more in the fifth before the Abbey plated one in the fifth, using an RBI single by Rodriguez that scored Frazier.

Lenoir-Rhyne would respond with one each in the sixth and seventh, but the Abbey earned two back in the bottom of the seventh on a L-R fielding error. LR would push across three more in the eighth to close the scoring.
