Belmont Abbey starting pitcher Andrew Morton limited Pfeiffer to
one run on five hits in seven innings while striking out seven
batters as the Crusaders baseball team won the rubber game of a
Conference Carolinas baseball series with a 6-1 win over the
Falcons this afternoon. The Abbey improves to 8-8 overall and 3-3
in Conference Carolinas, while Pfeiffer falls to 10-5-1 overall and
1-2 in Conference Carolinas.
Morton earned the win after seven solid innings, while Evan
Jonas and Jordan Cudney did not allow a hit or a run in the final
two innings. Adam Sedberry took the loss. He went two and
two-thirds innings giving up four runs, two earned.
Belmont Abbey jumped ahead in the first with three runs, but
only one was earned. The inning was highlighted with RBI singles by
Tyler McKenzie and Chris Vasquez.
In the third the Crusaders added to their lead when Danny Brion
homered to right center giving the Crusaders a 4-0 advantage. They
tacked on two more in the fourth when Daniel Kassouf led off with a
walk, then scored when Josh Frazier reached on an error. Roland
Rodriguez followed by singling Frazier home.
