Despite holding the advantage in shots and corner kicks and possessing the ball for 70 percent of the match, the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team fell to North Georgia 1-0 this evening in the final match of the Laker Shootout, hosted by Clayton State. The Abbey is now 2-2 on the year, while North Georgia improves to 3-1.

The Abbey outshot North Georgia 10-7 and led the corner kick battle 7-4, including 6-1 in the second half, but North Georgia scored the only goal it would need just 7:34 into the contest when Terry Gibbs scored from the goal mouth off of a pass from Will Maxwell for the only goal of the match.

The Crusaders had plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the contest, but were not able to capitalize as they fell 1-0.

The Abbey is back in action Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 when it hosts Catawba in the home opener.
