Box score
Despite holding the advantage in shots and corner kicks and
possessing the ball for 70 percent of the match, the Belmont Abbey
men's soccer team fell to North Georgia 1-0 this evening in the
final match of the Laker Shootout, hosted by Clayton State. The
Abbey is now 2-2 on the year, while North Georgia improves to
3-1.
The Abbey outshot North Georgia 10-7 and led the corner kick
battle 7-4, including 6-1 in the second half, but North Georgia
scored the only goal it would need just 7:34 into the contest when
Terry Gibbs scored from the goal mouth off of a pass from Will
Maxwell for the only goal of the match.
The Crusaders had plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the
contest, but were not able to capitalize as they fell 1-0.
The Abbey is back in action Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 when it
hosts Catawba in the home opener.
