Behind Emily Frohnapfel's 20 kills and five total blocks, the
Belmont Abbey volleyball team defeated visiting St. Andrews 3-2 in
a thrilling five set match. Set scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-19,
23-25 and 15-9. The Abbey improves to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in
Conference Carolinas, while the Knights fall to 2-7 overall and 0-2
in Conference Carolinas.
Frohnapfel blasted 20 kills with just four errors on 29 total
attacks (.552 hitting percentage) while posting five total blocks,
four assisted and one solo. Sydney Steffen added 12 kills with just
two errors on 23 total attacks (.435) while Leanne Cassandra posted
10 kills with three errors on 22 total attacks (.318). Rebekah
Weber handed out 29 assists while Molly Gwaltney posted 20.
Defensively, Carrie Markham led all players with 27 digs, while
Bria James added 17 and four service aces. Steffen added three
block assists.
St. Andrews Presbyterian was led by Galina Podolsky's 20 kills,
while Kelly Williams added 14. Jaime Hayes handed out 49 assists
and eight digs. Erica Davis led the Knights with 14 digs, while
Podolsky posted 12 to give her the double double.
