4/26/2008 12:00:00 AM

The Belmont Abbey baseball team swept a doubleheader at Newberry today, winning 13-1 and 2-1. The Crusaders improve to 39-19.

In game one, Belmont Abbey led 2-0 after the top of the first on RBI singles from Tyler McKenzie and Seth Waller. The lead was extended to 4-0 in the third after a pair of unearned runs.

The Indians scraped a run back in the bottom of the third, but the Crusaders pulled away with four runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth. Both McKenzie and Waller would finish the game with three RBIs apiece. The guests capped the scoring with a pair of runs in the seventh.

BAC's Michael Raymond (WP; 5-4) picked up the win, allowing only the one unearned run on three hits, striking out five. Petty (LP; 5-9) allowed eight runs - four earned - on 11 hits in 3.2 innings and was tagged with the loss.

In game two, McKenzie and Waller proved to be the Indians' undoing once again, picking up the RBIs that would give the Crusaders the lead in the top of the fourth. Chris Bremer (LP; 3-7) cruised through the other six innings, but was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in 6.2 innings.
