Box score

Five different Belmont Abbey players recorded goals as the Crusaders women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 37 with a 5-0 win over Lees-McRae this afternoon. The Abbey, winners of seven straight, all by shutout, improves to 15-2-3 overall and 10-0-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Lady Bobcats fall to 11-9 and 3-8 in Conference Carolinas. With the win, the Abbey clinches the top seed in next week's Conference Carolinas tournament as it won the tiebreaker over Queens. Both schools finished with identical 10-0-1 marks and they will be regarded as co-regular season champions.

The Abbey never trailed and was never seriously threatened in the match as it outshot Lees-McRae 15-4 and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Danielle Kubinski, one of five Crusader seniors honored prior to the match, put the Crusaders ahead 1-0 just 1:54 into the contest. Lauren Faerber fired a corner kick to the center of the box, where Rebecca Mateo headed it over to an unmarked Kubinski, who headed home the one-time volley for a 1-0 lead.

Shortly before halftime, Erika Trivisonno made it 2-0, as she gathered a pass from Elsie Hernandez and fired home a blast from the center of the box at the 43:17 mark.

In the second half, the Abbey unleashed an offensive explosion when it scored three goals in a six minute span, as Faerber struck first at the 59:32 mark when she blasted a corner kick that went directly into the net. Two minutes later Celene Molera made it 4-0 when she ran down a Kristin Voirin clearance and sped past the Lees-McRae defense and slipped a shot past Marissa Middleton for the goal. Three minutes later, Mateo and Molera hooked up for an easy goal. Mateo beat a defender down the left side and fired a cross to the middle of the box, where Molera was all by herself and headed home the volley for a 5-0 lead, which was the final.

Anna Wells made two saves in the net for the Abbey, while Middleton collected four.

As the top seed in next week's Conference Tournament, the Abbey will host every match it plays, starting with Monday afternoon's match at 2:00 p.m. against the yet-to-be-determined eighth-seed.
