Belmont Abbey dominated from start to finish, outshooting the
Cobras 34-0 and holding an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks as it
scored just 3:23 into the match. Celene Molera passed off to
Rebecca Mateo down the left side, where she fired a shot off of the
right post that bounded across the goal and into the lower left
corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
Six minutes later, Molera made it 2-0 as she collected a loose
ball in the Cobras zone, dribbled unmarked 15 yards to the goal
mouth and fired a low shot past Chelsea Beetch for the goal.
Freshman Connie Axiotis closed the half with two goals 15
minutes apart, the first coming at the 20:24 mark with an assist to
Lauren Faerber, and the other at the 34:45 mark with an assist to
Amanda Maddock.
The Abbey added a pair of goals in the second half, the first by
Erika Trivisonno. Courtney Paquin started the play with a short
corner kick to Lauren Faerber, who lofted a pass to the center of
the box where Trivisonno headed home the winner for a 5-0 lead.
The final goal of the contest was scored by Kelsey Lovell in the
80th minute, as Stephanie Avila sent a pass to Lauren Ware, who
fired a shot that was blocked, but Lovell was there to head in the
ball back into the net for her first career goal.
