The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team outshot Converse 32-0 and
held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks as the Crusaders opened the
Conference Carolinas portion of their schedule with a 2-0 home win
over the All-Stars this afternoon. The Abbey improves to 4-3-0 and
1-0-0 in league play, while Converse falls to 1-5-0 overall and
0-2-0 in the conference.
The Abbey wasted no time getting on the board, getting the only
goal it would need in the the third minute. Courtney Paquin sailed
a corner kick to the far post, where junior defender Danielle
Kubinski headed home the winner for her first goal of the year.
After numerous scoring chances throughout the match, senior
forward Erin Kolb stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 68th minute.
Freshman Kelsey Lovell gathered the ball in the Converse zone an
sailed a pass to Kolb, who dribbled and fired a left-footed shot
from 16 yards out for her third goal of the year.
The Abbey finished with 32 shots as 13 different players had at
least one. Goalkeeper Anna Wells did not have to make a save as she
did not face a shot.
The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m.
when they go on the road to face USC Aiken.
